Activities and Projects

Education

Over the years, the Foundation has educated a number of people in Barbados as well other Caribbean islands on blood related cancers.

The Foundation has a Bi-weekly Educational and Socioeconomic Welfare outreach programme at the Haematology Clinic, Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

Educational outreach is done in the community, at department stores, supermarkets, churches, health fairs and other pubilc organisations. Newspaper and TV interviews are given from time to time.

Our reading material and other data comes from the USA, specifically from The International Myeloma Foundation and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, however we do have our own leaflet on each of the conditions which are handed out on our educational drives.

Socioeconomic Welfare

  • The Foundation has purchased the drug Thalidomide and other drugs for patients, this is ongoing.
  • We have bought school uniforms and Christmas gifts for two children whose mother had died from one of the conditions, this is also ongoing.
  • If needed, toiletries, flowers and other items are given to patients who are in hospital, especially those who are in the District Hospital, these persons are mainly afflicted with Myeloma and our visits mean a lot.
  • Food hampers and monetary donations are given when necessary.
  • A Couch (Examination Bed) was presented to the Haematology clinic of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
  • A Welch Allyn Spot Monitor was presented to the Haematology Clinic in November 2010.

Fundraising

The Foundation has to date raised its funds from:

  • Annual Tea Parties
  • Cake Sales
  • Membership fees
  • Sale of Foundation badges

Donations

  • International Donations
